Quality of Life: How do I know it’s time to let go?

Deciding when to euthanize your pet is never an easy decision. The following questions are some objective guidelines to help you identify signs of suffering:

 1.   Is your pet in pain and how well can the pain be controlled with pain medication?

 2.    Is your pet still interested in food and water?

 3.    Is your pet urinating/defecating normally?

 4.   Is your pet still experiencing joy? Does your pet still recognize  you?

 5.   Is your pet still able to walk?

 6.   Does your pet have difficulty breathing?

 7.   Have there been changes in behaviour? Have you noticed aggression?

A consultation with your regular veterinarian or Dr. Purtscher can help you determine your pet's quality of life and the best course of action.
